Most of the people we meet while traveling can’t read this blog because they just don’t understand French. Yet, some of them tell us they often check it, only watching the pictures. Nevertheless, I wanted Sam and Cathy to be able to read this article as they made our trip to Fiji absolutely awesome.<\/p>\n

As I said at our arrival to Fiji, we wanted to discover, in addition to beaches and underwater exploration, the local culture. What a blast we’ve got! The Fijian are super welcoming. They never stop saying \u00ab\u00a0Bula\u00a0\u00bb in a way that means \u00ab\u00a0Hi my friend. Hope you have a lovely day!\u00a0\u00bb Always smiling sincerely.<\/p>\n

As soon as we landed in a nice resort along coral coast for Christmas, we’ve met a nice Fijian family that I’ve already mentioned to you: Sam and Cathy as well as their 9 year-old son Rehan. We’ve celebrated Christmas together and we’ve spent good moments with them. Cathy has immediately got a crush with Mahaut and she played hours in the swimming pool with her, acting as a shark and listening to her laughing out loud. Since then, Mahaut has become her \u00ab\u00a0baby shark\u00a0\u00bb. Then Sam drove me around the place early the next morning to see the beautiful sand dunes with a great view point on both the ocean and the inlands. He gave us many good tips for the rest of the trip and offered his support whenever we would need. We were, in fact, quite relieved to get his phone call and reassuring news when we were alone, in our small \u00ab\u00a0bure\u00a0\u00bb facing the see few hours before the cyclone alert.<\/p>\n

Thus, here we are today, in Lautoka, in their house, for our last day in the Fiji. They had invited us and we were extremely pleased to come. For Mahaut’s greatest joy, Cathy gives her \u00ab\u00a0baby shark\u00a0\u00bb tons of nice hugs. For the occasion she has cooked us a delicious beef curry and we all loved it.<\/p>\n

Sam, as far as he’s concerned, called 2 of his friends (including Ash that I’ve met in the coal coast few weeks ago) to share the \u00ab\u00a0cava\u00a0\u00bb with us. We drank this traditional Fijian drink during hours and I must admit that it made me very dizzy until I reached my bed later in the night.<\/p>\n

The next morning, we had a great breakfast together and Sam drove us to Rehan\u2019s school for few minutes so that we could say goodbye to him properly before he dropped us all at the airport. He\u2019s just missed a half day work to be able to drive us himself! We are fully aware of the chance we\u2019ve got to meet such lovely family. We\u2019ll certainly never forget them, never forget Cathy\u2019s farewell tears\u2026 We bear in mind the hope to meet again somewhere in the world\u2026<\/p>\n

La plupart des gens que nous rencontrons ne peuvent pas lire ce blog, tout simplement parce qu\u2019ils ne parlent pas fran\u00e7ais. Pourtant, certains nous disent aller voir nos photos malgr\u00e9 tout, sans avoir besoin de comprendre les articles. Je voulais n\u00e9anmoins, que Sam et Cathy puissent lire cet article, car ils nous ont permis, entre autre, de vivre des aventures extraordinaires aux Fidji.<\/p>\n

Comme je le disais \u00e0 notre arriv\u00e9e dans le pays, nous voulions d\u00e9couvrir, en plus des plages et de l\u2019exploration des fonds marins, la culture locale. Quelle claque nous avons pris ! Les fidjiens sont extr\u00eamement accueillants. Sans cesse, ils nous disent \u00ab\u00a0Bula\u00a0\u00bb d\u2019une fa\u00e7on qui veut dire \u00ab\u00a0Salut les amis, passez une belle journ\u00e9e !\u00a0\u00bb en souriant sinc\u00e8rement.<\/p>\n

A peine atterris dans un \u00ab\u00a0resort\u00a0\u00bb de la \u00ab\u00a0coral coast\u00a0\u00bb pour f\u00eater No\u00ebl, nous avions rencontr\u00e9 une belle famille fidjienne dont je vous avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 parl\u00e9 : Sam et Catherine et leur fils de 9 ans, Rehan. Nous avions c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 No\u00ebl ensemble et nous avons pass\u00e9 des moments super sympa avec eux. Cathy a imm\u00e9diatement eu un petit coup de coeur pour Mahaut et a jou\u00e9 des heures dans la piscine avec elle, singeant le requin pour la faire rire aux \u00e9clats. Depuis Mahaut est devenue son \u00ab\u00a0baby shark\u00a0\u00bb (b\u00e9b\u00e9 requin). Ensuite, Sam m’a emmen\u00e9 en voiture visiter les alentours et notamment les magnifiques dunes de sable qui dominent \u00e0 la fois l’oc\u00e9an et les montagnes de l’\u00eele. Il nous a donn\u00e9 plein de bons plans pour le reste de notre voyage aux Fidji et nous a propos\u00e9 son aide \u00e0 tout moment. On \u00e9tait d’ailleurs assez soulag\u00e9 de recevoir des nouvelles rassurantes par t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, quand nous \u00e9tions perdus sur notre \u00eele, quelques heures avant l’alerte cyclone.<\/p>\n

Et c’est ainsi que nous voil\u00e0 aujourd’hui, \u00e0 Lautoka, dans leur maison pour notre dernier jour aux Fidji. Ils nous avaient invit\u00e9s et nous \u00e9tions super contents de pouvoir venir chez eux. Pour la plus grande joie de Mahaut, Cathy a retrouv\u00e9 son \u00ab\u00a0baby shark\u00a0\u00bb et l’a couverte de bisous. Pour l’occasion, elle nous a cuisin\u00e9 un excellent curry de b\u0153uf et nous avons tous ador\u00e9 !<\/p>\n

En ce qui concerne Sam, il a appel\u00e9 2 amis (dont Ash que nous avions rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 coral coast il y a quelques semaines), pour partager le \u00ab\u00a0cava\u00a0\u00bb. Nous avons bu cette boisson traditionnelle pendant des heures et j’en ai clairement ressenti, cette fois, les effets puisque j’avais bien la t\u00eate qui tournait pour aller me coucher.<\/p>\n

Le matin suivant, apr\u00e8s un bon petit d\u00e9jeuner, Sam nous a conduit \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole de Rehan pour que nous puissions lui dire au revoir. Incroyable. Ensuite il nous a conduit \u00e0 l’a\u00e9roport. Pour cela il a m\u00eame manqu\u00e9 une demi journ\u00e9e de travail ! On mesure bien la chance que nous avons eu de rencontrer une famille si sympa. Nous ne les oublierons jamais, nous n’oublierons pas non plus les larmes sinc\u00e8res de Cathy au moment du d\u00e9part, et nous gardons, au fond de nous, l’espoir de nous revoir un jour quelque part dans le monde…<\/p>\n
